Return of the DS


I never realised that the Citroen I use to call upside down boat was called the Citroen DS, I also didn’t realise how popular the car was in its time. So recently when I saw the launch of Citroens new DS models I understood why this new car was such a funky design, it had to live up to its ancestors.

The old Citroen DS’s design was pretty bold and it took me a long time to accept how unique and cool this car actually is. For the time it was built it was an extremely luxury vehicle and technology wise it was up there with its innovative hydro pneumatic self-levelling suspension. The design was also a little outrageous, but these were the reasons for making this car such an icon.

The new Citroen DS3 which I had a chance to check out at Citroen Newcastle DS3 showroom. I

was kind of put off by its design, I thought it looked a little over the top. But now that I’ve seen how much this car can be customised, I’m actually impressed by its uniqueness and learning about its ancestral roots I understand the thinking behind this rather unique car.

Citroen will apparently be releasing another 2 models under the DS logo. First there’s the Citroen DS4 which will be a 2 door SUV Cross-over, which is exciting stuff. Even more exciting is the Citroen DS5 which will be a large family sized car and the best bit is, it will be a diesel hybrid car.

Brown is the new Black

The last couple of years saw a rise in cars being released in white. It’s a cool colour but it’s starting to get boring. So it’s good news to see that 2010 seems to be bringing new hues into the market; the most popular seems to be shades of Brown. As always fashion trends always go full circle, so seeing brown cars reminds me of my dad’s car back when I was just 8 years old, he use to drive a chocolate brown Ford Escort. As I got older I remember joy riding around in a brown Mini Metro, luckily I never got caught. The first brown car I saw was the Audi R8 Spyder, which looked amazing. I made a mistake while “designing” this car...

I’m always keen to check out the cars of the future, so when I hear about a new car being released I’m usually straight on Google searching for an image of the new car. And when it comes to cars with a prestige ancestry I usually get even more excited. Until recently, I’ve now started to think these “designers” are making a mistake and I wish I had pursued my dream career of being a car designer; maybe I could have helped the industry. I’ll start with my most recent disaster design. I’m a big BMW Fan and when they go and make things like the New BMW X1, it really breaks my heart and makes me feel sick. The BMW X1 is basically the 4x4 version of.....you guessed it, the BMW 1 Series! Why we need another rubbish 4x4 is beyond me. The next one almost brings me to tears and I’ve mentioned it before, the Aston Martin Cygnet. Why would Aston Martin even think about making this, it’s not even their own car design disaster! Laziness or Genius – Honda’s Walking Assist

The world of Honda Innovations is a fascinating place. I recently came across this new invention and I had to really look twice to even accept that such an idea was thought up by somebody. At first I looked at it and thought, this is the world getting lazier by day. Surely we don’t need a machine to help us walk around; I thought we had the whole walking thing mastered centuries ago. The device didn’t look very attractive either and I couldn’t imagine seeing people walking around with a machine strapped to their legs. I thought I’d give the idea a chance and read further into the Walking Assist section on the Honda website. They claim this is a device to help people perform physically demanding activities, by making the body weight seem lighter. Effectively it helps reduce the load off your legs, while climbing up stairs, which apparently helps reduce fatigue and physical exertion.
